About Us
Who We Are
The Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) is a member-driven labor union with offices in Saint Paul and Duluth that is comprised of 22,000 Registered Nurses (RNs) and other healthcare professionals in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Iowa. Since its founding in 1905, MNA’s mission is to promote the professional, economic, and personal well-being of nurses; to uphold and advance excellence, integrity, and autonomy in the practice of nursing; and to advocate for quality care that is accessible and affordable for patients and consumers. We achieve this mission through collective action in the workplace and at the State Capitol.
When we fight together, we win
In 2022, 15,000 MNA nurses across the Twin Cities metro and Duluth took collective action to fight for better contracts and safe working and care conditions in one of the largest private-sector nurses’ negotiations ever in the United States. Nurses’ fight led to historic 18% wage increase over 3 years that set the bar for other nurses across the country, as well as improved staffing language and other benefits and protections. Concerted actions through a strong union have placed the Twin Cities in the top three areas of the country for the highest-, along with Portland and Boston.
MNA also advocates for healthcare for all, safe staffing levels, and workplaces where workers are free of fear from violence.
